PREQUEL TO THE SORCERY TRILOGY
The streets are full of magic, both good and bad. Caught in the middle, between night and day, is the young street witch apprentice Matthew Grayhurst. Left alone, after the war between black and white spellcasters, he has yet to find his way through life. When he and his fellow apprentices are ousted from their lodge by government agents, they find themselves enmeshed in such danger and intrigue that their very lives are put at risk.
The Street Witch Queen is lost and alone, in the palace of the mages in the Stone City. She imprisoned her fellow witch, along with two of her former apprentices, in a dank passage deep in the bowels of the palace. Even if they manage to escape, they will be at the mercy of the creatures known as slivers, guardians of the ruinous building. To add to the witch queen's woes, the spirits of those who died in that place dog her every footstep; there is no hope of escape.
The wolf is on the hunt but it's not prey he's after, it's a throne, one that must be occupied by someone worthy; but who will that be? The question remains unanswered, even in his own mind. It could be him, but he has no interest in the backbreaking responsibility that kingship would bring. All he does know is that lives have and will be lost until the task is done. Loath though he is to get involved, there is no escaping this quest - it must be fulfilled
The pathway unwinds before her, empty and never ending. There is no love, there is no kinship, all is loneliness and fear and the darkness seeks her out at every turn. The soulless place the child calls home is filled with malice and spite, along with a generous measure of hatred. When will it end? When will the light come and save her from the darkness? Then one day she realises the answers to her questions.
